Website PDF Accessibility Remediation

View and Save Website PDF

To view all PDF documents on your website, log in to ModernCampus and then open the site-manager.pcf file under the _setup folder.

Under the SITE FRAMEWORK window:

  1. Select the File Manager icon
  2. Select PDF Pages for the file type
  3. Select the PDF URL to view
  4. Select the Tools icon
  5. Select Save to save the document to your local drive

Check PDF Accessibility

To check a PDF for accessibility, open the PDF in Adobe Acrobat DC. Under All tools (left side), scroll down and find "Prepare for accessibility (1)." If it's not visible, click the "View more" link (2).

Under the Prepare for accessibility window, select Check for accessibility (1). The Accessibility Checker Options window opens and click the "Start Checking" button (2).

The Accessibility Checker window will appear on the right. Expand the different areas to review the accessibility results.

PDF Remediation

To remediate accessibility issues on a PDF, it's much easier to fix the original electronic document and then convert it to PDF.

PDF Accessibility Remediation Tool

To use the PDF Accessibility Remediation Tool, go to the Accessible Technology Initiative (ATI) site and click on the PDF Accessibility Remediation button (right side).

Log in and click on the rectangle area and browse for the file to remediate (1). Once the file is selected, click the "Upload and Process" button (2) and wait for the process to finish.

Once the process is done, click on the "Download" button to download the remediated PDF. You also have the option to download the report by clicking the "View Report" button.

Open the PDF in Adobe Acrobat and follow the Check PDF Accessibility instructions.

Some errors can easily be fixed. An example is the primary language is not indicated. Right click on the error and select Fix. Follow the instructions to fix the error.

Titan Accessible

For more complex errors the PDF Accessibility Remediation tool is not able to fix, you can submit the PDF to be remediate by Titan Accessible.

For training on creating accessible PDF, go to LinkedIn Learning and search for Accessible PDF.

The CSU also provided Systemwide Tools & Training for accessibility. Please review the different tools and training based on your need.

Updating the PDF on the Website

To update the PDF on the website, rename the remediated PDF to the same name as the original PDF. Make sure to show the file extension by selecting the View menu, then Show and check "File name extensions."

Log in to ModernCampus and then upload the PDF to the same directory as the original PDF. Make sure to check the "Overwrite Existing" checkbox and then click the "START UPLOAD" button.
