Instructions for VPN and Remote Desktop

These instructions cover how to VPN and Remote Desktop.

Remote Desktop Option

To make sure your remote desktop option is on, please follow the steps below.

1. At the bottom left of your computer screen, click on the Windows flag icon.

2. Click on the Settings icon, which is represented by the gear icon.

3. Select System.

4. Then select Remote Desktop, which is located near the end of the list.

5. In the section that says Enable Remote Desktop, make sure the switch is On.

  • You may find your computer name in this section. If not, proceed to Find Computer’s Name section.

Find Computer's Name

To find the computer’s name, please follow the steps below.

1. At the bottom left of your computer screen, click on the Windows flag icon.

2. Click on the Settings icon, which is represented by the gear icon.

3. Select System.

4. Then select About, which is located at the end of the list.

5. Under Device Specifications, write down the Device name, which is your computer’s name.

Request for VPN Access

To request for VPN access, please follow the steps below.

2. Click on Submit VPN Software Request.

Click the Submit VPN Software Request button

3. On the right-hand side, click on Proceed to Checkout.

4. Make sure your name is listed in the Requested for field.

5. Click on Checkout at the bottom right.

Click the Checkout button

Once you have all the requirements, then you should be able to remote desktop to your computer. GlobalProtect has only been installed in the afittraining account. To access afittraining, please use the account information located at the left side of the mouse pad of your assigned laptop.

If you did not see AFIT Training account on the laptop, please go to AFIT Training Account Login for instructions on how to sign in with the AFIT Training Account on the laptop.  

Downloading Global Protect

1. Once you receive an email that VPN access has been granted, you will need to download GlobalProtect.

2. To download GlobalProtect, click on the instructions in the Helpdesk email.

3. Follow the instructions on Download & Install GlobalProtect (the VPN Agent) for more information.

Sign in to Global Protect

1. Once you download Global Protect and are ready to sign into your remote desktop, you will need to locate GlobalProtect.

The GlobalProtect Popup Window will appear in the bottom right-hand of screen.

Global protect can be found in the lower right-hand corner.

Note: If you cannot find GlobalProtect, use the Search bar to locate it.

2. Fill out the portal address with gpst.fullerton.edu or gpft.fullerton.edu.

3. Press Connect.

Depending on your authentication device, please choose one of the following options below.

Authenticate through DUO Mobile

4. GlobalProtect will prompt you for login credentials. Use your campus login credentials, and a DUO Push notification will be sent to DUO Mobile App.

Note: You may need to AD\ in front of your username to sign in.

You will be prompted to enter your username and password.

5. Accept the DUO Mobile Push.

You will need to accept the DUO Mobile Push.

Once you successfully signed in with VPN, remote desktop to your work computer. Please follow the steps below on how to remote desktop.

Authenticate through DUO Keychain fob

6. Press the button on your keychain fob to generate a passcode.

7. On the login window, complete the following:

  1. Enter your campus username.
  2. In the password field, enter your campus password followed by a comma and then the password (e.g., ThisIsMyCampusPassword123,787063).
  3. Then click Sign In.

Remote Desktop to Work Computer

1. At the bottom left of your computer screen, click on the Windows flag icon.

Select the Windows icon

2. Type in the Search bar: Remote Desktop Connection.

3. Type in your computer name in the Computer field.

Note: You may need to add '.AD.FULLERTON.EDU' at the end of your computer name.

4. Click Connect.

Select the Connect button

5. This will then prompt your log in credentials.

You will need to enter your log in credentials.
